Areas of Speciality
I specialize in teaching decoding, reading comprehension, writing, spelling, math, memory, and focus skills. These are areas commonly impacted by learning differences, such as dyslexia and auditory processing disorder. Based on a student’s overall areas of need, it may be necessary to prioritize which areas are focused upon for a block of time. Although I work with students of various ages, I typically accept students prior to entering third grade.
Methods
I offer individualized instruction that focuses on boosting foundational skills, while supporting each student to reach his or her potential. The approaches that I use are multisensory, meaning that they engage several senses simultaneously. Current research validates that multisensory instruction can rewire the brain and make it more efficient at certain tasks. The more pathways (visual, auditory, tactile, kinesthetic) involved, the more synapses are activated to code and retrieve information to and from the brain. I use research-proven programs to help children overcome mild, moderate, or significant learning challenges.
Partnership
As an experienced learning specialist, I understand the importance of working in partnership with parents, teachers, and other professionals. Communication regarding progress, concerns, and recommended home activities will support your child's growth. Additionally, I can suggest reasonable classroom accommodations and share progress with teachers and paraprofessionals at client request. I care about the students I work with, and I am committed to their ongoing success.
